Amy Rae
Voice Lessons
Amy Rae is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy (High School), Southern Methodist University and UNCA-Asheville (B.A. Voice Performance) and Antioch New England Graduate School (M.A. in Expressive Arts Therapies).
Amy started her music career playing piano, guitar and French horn. She began studying voice when her college music theory professor heard her in a sight reading exercise. This experience lead to advanced study of singing and acting career in Chicago's clubs, theaters and in film and television productions. Since moving to Asheville, she has lead her own swing and dance band Vitamin Love, The Amy Rae Band, and she currently leads The Swing Rays. She also enjoys performing with the local favorites Tuxedo Junction.
Amy joined the AMS faculty in 2001.
LESSONS WITH AMY
Amy teaches vocal technique based on a classical approach, a foundation onto which a student can build advanced technique for any style-from classical to country and everywhere in between. Amy is able to help the advanced student of musical theatre, jazz/cabaret and other contemporary styles prepare for a professional career and has already helped launch many budding professionals.
Amy incorporates music theory and ear training into her lessons, encouraging all her students to be fluent in music theory and to develop a basic skill level on piano, guitar or other accompanimental instruments.
