LESSONS WITH Michael
A general understanding into guitar lessons with Michael Boothroyd.
My approach in teaching guitar is to discuss, initially,
what impresses each student most about the guitar and what are the most essential ideas the student has in learning the guitar. Studying guitar can really can be fun! The first four weeks of lessons, I will guide each student in understanding his or her guitar features and overall functionality. During the same time, I will involve the student in choosing familiar melodies, in easy keys, including "The Star Spangled Banner", "Star Wars Theme Song" and have students learn to finger/play the melody notes on the guitar using a specific fingering approach designed for the most efficient performance. Familiar melodies are best to start with in learning the notes on the guitar fingerboard and will generally keep the student interested in practicing the guitar daily. Upon completing some initial and necessary skills in playing familiar melodies, basic music theory and hand placement development skills will be evaluated. I will suggest after eight weeks of lessons how students should best continue practicing the guitar. Smiles and a sense of joy will often occur in each student following several weeks of lessons and the successful completion of each new song carefully selected by Michael and his students. A good teacher and student working relationship will often reflect after several weeks of lessons and the fun and fulfillment of studying the guitar will hopefully continue to prosper with each of Michael's students at The Asheville Music School.
