Rosalind Buda
Rosalind Buda is an active teacher and chamber and orchestral musician, performing in venues throughout the US and abroad. Rosalind recently relocated to Asheville where she is pursuing teaching, performing, folk music, and mountain exploration. She is former bassoonist with the Neponset Valley Philharmonic and the Haffner Sinfonietta in Boston, and has recently performed with the Marsh Chapel Collegium, Mercury Orchestra, Boston New Music Initiative, and soloed with the Tufts University Flute Ensemble. Rosalind has also performed with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony (IA), the Rome Festival Orchestra in Rome, Italy, the Lowell House Opera at Harvard University, and the Lausitzer Opernsommer orchestra in Cottbus, Germany.
Rosalind is a graduate of the New England Conservatory where she earned her Masters Degree while with studying with Richard Svoboda. While at NEC, Rosalind was a part of the Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship program, and presented programs to young audiences with a bassoon quartet. Rosalind received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Iowa where she studied with Benjamin Coelho.
As a graduate student, Rosalind worked for The New England Conservatory's Career Services Center and interned and worked for the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston, giving her a well-rounded view on careers in music and arts administration skills. She served as New England Conservatory’s Alumni Relations Coordinator and freelanced in Boston prior to her move to Asheville.
Outside of classical bassoon performance, Rosalind pursues her interest in traditional Scottish piping (Great Highland Bagpipes and Scottish Smallpipes), enjoys various forms of Celtic dance, and plays bombard and pipes with the band Brizeus.
Lessons with Rosalind:
Rosalind in an enthusiastic and experienced teacher, having taught beginning to advanced bassoon lessons to students ranging in age from 12-65. Her lessons focus on making the bassoon exciting, enjoyable, comfortable to play, and accessible. Bassoons and their players are unique, so every lesson is attentive to the individual needs and goals of each student. Lessons incorporate tone production, embouchure development, technique, posture and ergonomic playing, practice techniques, and a focus on both solo and ensemble repertoire. As a part of building a good musical foundation for the bassoon, lessons with Rosalind also delve into basic improvisation, theory, and melodic memory. Reed making and adjustment techniques are also available as a part of instruction. Rosalind hopes that there will someday be a bassoon ensemble in Asheville, because who can argue with the power of a forest of beautiful, sonorous bassoons?
